Bio
Dr. Regula E. Burki, FACOG is in private practice in gynecology at the Salem-Spital, Bern, Switzerland since the fall of 2005.
Prior to that she practiced for two decades in Salt Lake City, Utah, where she was a clinical instructor in Obstetrics and Gynecology at the University of Utah and for the St. Mark's Family Medicine residency program. She has more than a dozen years experience as a principal investigator in clinical trials on HRT and oral contraceptives. She has served on advisory boards on postmenopausal health and as a national and international speaker to both physicians and the lay public on menopause and osteoporosis.
She is a past president of the Utah section of the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists and a past president of the Utah Women Physicians section of the Utah Medical Association. She periodically volunteers on gynecological aid missions, teaching local doctors and lay health workers in various Latin American countries, including Bolivia, Mexico and Nicaragua, and was a gynecology consultant for the Salt Lake City homeless clinic.
After receiving her MD from the University of Berne, Switzerland, Dr. Burki spent a year as a pathology resident at the Mallory Institute at Boston University, where she also had conducted the research for her dissertation. She then became a Clinical Fellow in Obstetrics and Gynecology at Harvard University and spent two years as an intern and junior resident at the Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston. After training for a year as a surgical resident at the University of Berne, she completed her OB/GYN residency at the Massachusetts General Hospital where she served as chief resident. She is certified by the American Board for Obstetricians and Gynecologists and the International Society of Clinical Densitometry (Bone density measurement).
Dr. Burki has been published in professional journals and lay publications including a bi-weekly health column for the Salt Lake Tribune. She is a diplomat of the American Board of Obstetrics and Gynecology, a founding member of the North American Menopause Society, and a member of the Swiss and International Menopause Societies and of the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists, as well as the Swiss Society for Gynecology and Obstetrics.
She is a native of Switzerland and is married to a University professor and has three sons.
Dr. Burki has practiced Gynecology in Switzerland, Utah, Massachusetts, and Colorado, as well as in several Latin American countries as a volunteer.
